Over the past several years we’ve become conditioned to ignore online invitations (especially Evites). Since email is a form of asynchronous communication, often we’ll see an email and plan to take care of it later. While wedding invitations are important enough to stand out from other types of online invites — they’re still online invites at their core. It’s possible — not guaranteed, but possible — some guests might not take your wedding as serious if you send digital invites.
When grasping the etiquette on how to address formal wedding invitations, it’s important to note the general guidelines on the envelopes. Traditional wedding invitations include an outer and inner envelope. The outer envelope is addressed with formal titles and full names, while the inner envelope is usually less formal. For traditional invitations, if a married woman is in the military but her husband is not, they are addressed as a civilian married couple using social titles. Ryan and Morgan Adams” and “The Drs. Adams.” Drop the first names on the inner envelope, when applicable. List your friend first, regardless of gender, followed by the formal name of their guest on the line below. When to Send Save the Dates

We recommend sending save-the-dates one year before your wedding. Using Thomas instead of Tom or William instead of Bill, for example, is good etiquette.
