That’s why comparing distances of balls is a fools errand. The things that are important are ball speed, launch, and spin. Drivers maximize ball speeds due to their low loft, large clubhead, and long shaft. Tour players and long drivers can even exceed 200 mph ball speeds with their biggest drives. For most amateurs, driver ball speeds fall in the 110–150 mph range depending on swing speed. With the shotgun about to get underway, there was little time to waste.
