Remember, we tend to do everything possible to validate and reinforce our beliefs. When we accept something to be fact and form a belief, it is stored in our subconscious mind. Our subconscious mind does not know or care if the belief is true or false. Our subconscious mind acts as our autopilot to make our life easier and to keep us safe. It serves to help automate our actions and responses to certain situations. This set of beliefs affects what we think about ourselves, others, and the world at large.

For a person to be diagnosed with PTSD, the symptoms must last for more than a month and cause significant distress or problems in the individual’s daily functioning (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Genetic research has also suggested a relationship between the development of PTSD and specific genes (Zhao et al., 2017) and receptor proteins (Miller, Wolf, Logue, & Baldwin, 2013). PTSD comes with a complex set of symptoms, including somatic, cognitive, affective, and behavioral, that are the effects of psychological trauma (van der Kolk, McFarlane, & Weisaeth, 1996). Trauma can be overwhelming for a person in psychological terms (Neria, Nandi, & Galea, 2008).

Now that you’ve established your brand within your company and have taken all the necessary steps to develop it, you’re ready to integrate your brand within your community. One of the most effective ways to ensure a business sticks to its branding “rules” is to create a set of brand guidelines that document all of the do’s and don’ts of your brand. The key is keeping any changes you make consistent throughout your entire brand (e.g., don’t change the design of your business cards and nothing else). In your logo, on your website, and on any documents that your business creates (print and digital), there should be consistent use of typography. Either way, be sure to develop your brand as a way to represent your business.

With this, it is important to note the need for research to gain more (substantial) support for cause-effect relationships of the above risk factors. Additionally, the risk factors of this profile could be correlated with each other (e.g., agreeableness with altruism, gender with sexual identity, attachment with incest and tunnel vision with elite sports). The next part focuses on empowering athletes stimulating their resistance and preventing them from becoming a victim of sexual violence. Hereafter, protective factors for empowering athletes will be discussed. Finally, the chapter ends with an existing intervention aiming to create a safe sports climate protecting athletes from experiencing sexual violence. Whilst altering the vulnerabilities of athletes at risk of sexual violence might be complex, it is valuable to make use of interventions focused on enhancing protective factors.
